Cassonade

Light and sky: a better-looking Minecraft that stays vanilla

You don't need a shader pack or a texture pack: it's the game's own look, with lights that have a color and a sky with some depth. Nothing to install besides the mod, nothing to set up. The sea, with its horizon and its depths, has its own page.

How it works

The same blocks in a better light, and you don't need a shader pack: lights with a color, and a deeper sky.

Light

  • Colored lights: each light tints what it lights with its own color, soul fire blue, redstone red, copper torches green, amethyst and crying obsidian purple, sea lanterns pale blue, glow lichen pale green, lava orange, the waystone's crystal pink; a light carried in hand takes its color too, the sculk torch teal. The color goes where the light goes, never through walls; outdoors the sun washes it out by day; torches, lanterns and fire keep their warm light.
  • A light in hand: a torch, a lantern or any light you hold lights up around you and follows you smoothly, as do torches dropped, held by other players or burning mobs.

Sky

  • The sky is a deep blue overhead, paling towards the horizon, and distant land melts into the very sky behind it, orange beside a sunset and blue by day, rather than into white.

Questions

Is it a shader pack?

No. It is the game's own rendering, adjusted: no Iris or OptiFine, and nothing to set up.

Does it work with Sodium?

Colored lights are turned off when Sodium is installed, as it draws the terrain its own way; lights then keep vanilla's warm glow.

Does it work on a server without the mod?

Yes: it all happens on your own computer, so it works anywhere.
